Lead Security Systems Engineer – Access Control & Video (Hirsch / Milestone)

Location: Washington, DC

Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site | Monday–Friday (6:30 AM – 3:00 PM)

Clearance: Ability to obtain Public Trust (Tier 3)

Salary Range: $118,000 – $132,000

Position Overview: This role is for a lead-level, hands-on security systems engineer who will provide technical leadership and oversight for complex electronic security systems at a federal campus. The position blends deep Hirsch Velocity and Milestone XProtect expertise with day-to-day technical leadership and accountability.
This is a player-coach role, not a desk-only supervisor position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for Hirsch Velocity access control systems
  • Oversee and support Milestone XProtect VMS operations and sustainment
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues across integrated subsystems
  • Analyze SQL databases, logs, alarms, and system trends
  • Lead and authorize system testing, validation, and corrective actions
  • Mentor and guide technical staff while remaining actively hands-on
  • Develop and refine preventative maintenance and sustainment strategies
  • Communicate system health, risks, and recommendations to leadership

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years enterprise electronic security systems experience
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Hirsch Velocity
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Milestone XProtect
  • 5+ years SQL database experience (queries, analysis, reporting)
  • Demonstrated technical leadership or supervisory experience
  • Ability to solve complex problems beyond manufacturer documentation
  • Strong written, verbal, and briefing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Federal facility or critical infrastructure experience
  • Experience leading system upgrades or modernization initiatives
  • Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts and architecture

Location: Nationwide / Hybrid (Federal Facilities)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $115,000 – $130,000 + full benefits

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Physical Security Systems Engineer with deep, hands-on experience supporting Hirsch Velocity access control systems in Federal environments. This role supports mission-critical PACS deployments across civilian, DoD, and IC facilities and requires someone who can design, configure, troubleshoot, and interface directly with Government stakeholders.
This is not an entry-level or installer-only role — this is an engineering-first position.

  • ScramblePad / Velocity Reader Technologies
  • PACS architecture in enterprise environments
  • Federal security systems experience

Nice to Have:

  • Any HSPD/12 PACS Software House, Lenel S2, Genetec, or Milestone XProtect exposure
  • Network security fundamentals
  • Experience supporting NDAA-compliant systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, deploy, and support Hirsch Velocity PACS solutions
  • Perform system upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting
  • Participate in system surveys, drawings, submittals, and as-built documentation
  • Support commissioning, testing, and lifecycle O&M
  • Interface with Program Managers, installers, and Government security teams
  • Ensure compliance with Federal standards and site-specific security requirements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of PACS experience in Federal environments
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring Hirsch Velocity
  • Strong understanding of networked access control systems
  • Comfortable working in secure facilities and mission-critical environments
  • Strong documentation and customer-facing communication skills

  • Installers who have only pulled cable or mounted hardware
  • Individuals without Federal or enterprise-scale security experience
  • Entry-level technicians or recent graduates
  • Candidates unwilling / unable to support secure or cleared environments
